God's Own Junkyard

God's Own Junkyard

"God's Own Junkyard is a neon wonderland in Walthamstow, East London: a warehouse filled with vintage neon signs, film props, and illuminated art collected over 40 years. Created by the late Chris Bracey, the 'Neon Man' who made props for films like Batman and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It's wildly Instagrammable and totally unique."

The Backstory

Chris Bracey spent 40 years collecting neon signs from Soho's strip clubs, cinemas, and shops as they closed down. After his death in 2014, his family opened the warehouse to the public. It's become a cult destination and film location (Bohemian Rhapsody, Muppets).

Local Secret

"Entry is free but there's a small cafe inside. Go on a cloudy day when the neon pops more dramatically against grey skies. The cafe serves coffee and snacks. It's open Friday-Sunday only. Combine with Walthamstow Market (Europe's longest outdoor market) nearby."
