teamLab Planets

"teamLab Planets is an immersive digital art museum where you walk barefoot through water, wade through mirrored rooms filled with floating flowers, and experience interactive light installations that respond to your movement. It's surreal, Instagrammable, and overwhelmingly popular—tickets sell out weeks in advance. The experience is multi-sensory: touch, walk, wade. Each room is a different world. It's art meets technology meets playground. Budget 90 minutes."

The Backstory

teamLab is a Japanese art collective founded in 2001 combining artists, programmers, engineers, and architects. teamLab Planets opened in Toyosu (near Odaiba) in 2018 as a 'body immersive' museum. It became one of Tokyo's most Instagrammed attractions. The museum was extended until 2027. teamLab has permanent museums in Tokyo (Borderless in Azabudai Hills) and worldwide.

Local Secret

"Book tickets online weeks in advance—they sell out daily. Go on weekdays or early morning (9-10am slots) to avoid crowds. You'll walk barefoot through water—wear shorts or roll up pants. No photography restrictions (unlike some museums). The 'Infinite Crystal Universe' and 'Floating Flower Garden' are most Instagrammable. Allow 90 minutes. Lockers provided for bags. Tickets ¥3,800-4,200."
