The Backstory
Brooklyn Bridge opened in 1883 after 14 years of construction and 27 worker deaths. It was called the 'Eighth Wonder of the World.' The park beneath was created in 2010 by converting abandoned piers and industrial waterfront. The DUMBO (Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass) neighborhood transformed from industrial to residential in the 1990s-2000s.
